It was a sight to behold when Kenya Air Force's newly acquired strikemaster jets were displayed to the public for the first time in 1971. The jets flown by an all-African crew under the command of the squadron leader Major Lawrence aka Larry Mwanzia, made a surprise appearance at Wilson airport during the Sixth Air Safari. Major Larry Mwanzia the squadron leader (not wearing a cap can be seen briefing other pilots who included Lt Marende later Major Marende, and Lt Kamuyu, later Colonel Kamunyu.
